David Platt, John Piper and Francis Chan - Good Reads
“Sometimes people will commend a book by saying, ‘You won’t want to put it down.’ I can’t say that about this book. You’ll want to put it down, many times. If you’re like me, as you read David Platt’s Radical, you’ll find yourself uncomfortably targeted by the Holy Spirit. You’ll see just how acclimated you are to the American dream. But you’ll find here another Way, one you know to be true, because you’ve heard it before in the words of the Lord Jesus, perhaps most forcefully in the simple call ‘Follow me.’”—Russell D. Moore, dean, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream is on my list to read. It is a book that will make up a trilogy of books two of which are written by other authors. John Piper's Don't Waste Your Life which was a life changing book for me when I first read it about 3 years ago. The other is Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God by Francis Chan, that I read about 3 weeks ago. Chan's book was not as in your face as Piper's but none the less moving. These three books should be required reading. They are not long or hard to read. Go for it.

The Irish Revival of 1859
I just started to read Revival on the Causeway Coast: The 1859 Revival in and around Coleraine in preparation for an upcoming trip to Northern Ireland. Nicolas Railton takes the reader on a journey into Northern Ireland in the early 1800's and gives a history of the state of the country and the church the preceded the 1859 revival. Not much is written on this part of Irish history.
About the same time that this revival took place similar events were happening in the United States. The publisher is Christian Focus out of Scotland.

J.C.Ryle: The Man of Granite
J. C. Ryle: That Man of Granite (Hisotry Makers) is the book I recently completed which gives a very good overview of Ryle and his evangelical leadership in the Church of England as the Bishop of Liverpool. He worked hard to bring the different views held with in the church at the time to a place of peace and unity. His evangelical mark was and continues to be felt in the church.
This work by Russell also gave me a general understanding of the day to day work of a Bishop. He reveals the reasons for writing some of his tracts and his book on Holiness which is on my reading list to complete this year.
Another book on my shelf that will help in understanding Ryle and his impact on the church is Faithfulness and Holiness: The Witness of J.C. Ryle by J.I. Packer.
Links to a good selection of his tracts:
